Brush Textures - solo for snare drum

Brush Textures, a three-minute jazzy unaccompanied solo, features the techniques and colors of basic (and intermediate) brush work on a single snare drum.  While the only implements used are a pair of brushes, the performance requirements of this “conceptual study in legato and sustain” include a few left-foot stomps (or optional use of a Gajate set-up or hi-hat).  The work is prefaced with four pages of explanation, direction, and performance notes.

The solo is published with two format versions.  While the first is printed in full instructional detail, the second is streamlined, providing a cleaner, less detailed or simplified appearance.  Once the solo is studied and rehearsed by means of the detailed print indications, many of those symbols are likely unnecessary for a lucid, fluent performance.
