Musicianship Baseline

At the center of the four intersecting domains (see Venn diagram) is Musicianship Baseline, an initial launch-point or hub for all subjects.

This opening chapter launches a working philosophy of musicianship and a topical series: “the importance of…” (listening, self-recording, performing with intention, “artistic license”).

It continues with subheadings – what it means to a “fluent” musician; three references by Farkas, Blum, and Klickstein; recording-to-recording comparisons; recording-to-score comparisons; personalized editing of the score; vocabulary and language; storytelling and making connections; “pathos” (select works); phrasing essentials; the Tabuteau numbering system; shading and color; how to listen to music; and other resources.
Musicianship - This AI-generated two-voice podcast (NotebookLM) covers primary components of the chapter. Beware of occasional mispronunciations of terms or names (e.g. composers). An option for listening to an informed discussion of key aspects of the chapter topics. [15:44]
