Etudes

These brief handouts (8), relevant to auxiliary percussion (also: concert percussion or accessory percussion), were developed for percussion methods courses and as supplemental ‘reminders’ for percussion students and band/orchestra directors.  Originally, these handouts coincided with a percussion techniques class auxiliary unit’s playing test, an etude referred to as 'The Gauntlet.’  In performance order, the instruments included are bass drum, triangle, suspended cymbal, crash cymbals, wood block, tam-tam, tambourine, and castanets.

Since the original ‘Gauntlet’ came into use, two other etudes were developed utilizing the same instrumentation and set-up (see diagram).  Each etude is a single page and available for free download.
